Kites On Ice 2001

I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure in the landscape

- the loneliness of it - the dead feeling of winter.

Something waits beneath it - the whole story doesn't show.

- Andrew Wyeth

Begun by world reknown kite aerial photographer and Madison native Craig Wilson, The Third Annual Kites on Ice Festival was held on February 3 and 4, 2001.

What could draw 1000s of people from around the world to the February cold of Madison, Wisconsin to fly and view kites on a frozen lake? Many may be attracted to the opportunity to come outside for a change and enjoy the beautiful colors and shapes of the kites during the traditional hibernation of winter. Kiters can take advantage of an opportunity to put some line in the air during a time when organized kite festivals in much of the northern hemisphere are few and far between. Others may attend for the workshops and demonstrations that take place indoors and out through out the day.
